Feeding Your New Leopard Gecko: A Step-by-Step Guide

When bringing a new leopard gecko into your home, it’s essential to maintain the right temperature for its well-being. Aim for a consistent temperature between 28°C and 32°C (82°F to 90°F). Upon arrival, your gecko doesn’t need to be fed for the first three days, but it’s important to provide water and calcium powder during this period.

If your gecko doesn’t show any interest in eating after a week, it’s time to try hand-feeding. Before starting, prepare a pair of tweezers. When offering food, gently pinch a mealworm and break it open. The gecko is attracted to the juices from the mealworm, which encourages it to start eating.

Hold the broken mealworm near the gecko’s mouth, allowing it to lick it. Once it licks, the gecko will likely bite and consume the mealworm. Be patient during the process—keep the mealworm close to the gecko’s mouth. After your gecko eats the first mealworm, you can try offering one or two more, then observe whether it begins to feed independently.

This method will help your gecko get started with eating and ensure a smooth transition to regular feeding.
